MESA held a Raman Spectroscopy for Materials Science on Friday the 20th of May 2011, at the Victoria University Wellington campus. This 1 day workshop took the 30+ attendees through the basics of Raman Spectroscopy with full classical and quantum mechanical descriptions of vibrational Raman spectroscopy, details of what can influence experimental results and some real examples of common materials. The workshop was given by Emerius Professor Joe Trodahl, and was based on a workshop he has given before at the EPFL.
This workshop is split into four lectures and a tutorial exercise; corresponding PDF files are linked below:
- Lecture 1: Introduction to Raman Spectroscopy
- Lecture 2: Raman Spectroscopy for Materials Scientists
- Lecture 3: Phase Transitions, Size and Resonance Considerations
- Lecture 4: Dispersive Raman Instruments
- Tutorial: Site Group Analysis Calculations
The original video and audio files are available for MESA students upon request.
